Patau Syndrome Background
Patau syndrome is a serious genetic condition that
results from the presence of an additional copy of chromosome 13 within the
cells of the afflicted individual. This disorder is considered to be a rare
condition, however, it is also an extremely devastating condition. It is very
rare for a child with this disorder to survive for substantial durations of
time. Trisomy 13 is a condition that causes a number of severe health
complications, and as a result of the consequences of this disorder, many
expecting parents choose to abort these pregnancies.
Patau Syndrome Symptoms
Patau syndrome is a very severe condition that causes a range of dangerous
health consequences. Symptoms of trisomy 13 syndrome range from physical, to
structural, to developmental, to neurological in nature. There are many
different types of symptoms associated with this condition, all of which are
extremely detrimental. Patau syndrome causes a number of debilitating physical
deformities, as well as serious, and often fatal, health complications. Many
children who are diagnosed with this condition do not survive long.
