Choking Overview

Choking is a very serious occurrence because it is the obstruction of the airway, which causes the oxygen flow of the body to be stifled and decreased. Furthemore, it is very uncomfortable to anyone who has this particular issue occurring, and if not treated it can be potentially very serious. Furthermore, it is an issue that can occur throughout the entirety of the age spectrum.

Choking

Choking is what occurs when there is an obstruction of someone's breathing. Most often choking is related to issues of food or a foreign object getting lodged in one's throat. Children are often more susceptible of having choking occur, because they do not understand the dangers that come with putting large objects in their mouths and attempting to swallow them.

Heimlich Maneuver

The Heimlich Maneuver is a procedure that is used to help dislodge food or foreign objects that get stuck in one's throat. This Heimlich Maneuver is often done with the help of another and should only be done by someone who knows how to do this procedure properly. When it comes to the Heimlich Maneuver, it is the basic concept of an abdominal thrust which creates the coughing action that is supposed to dislodge the item from the airway. In some cases this action can be done relativel easily, while in other instances there is a need for much repetition.

Choking Hazard

Choking Hazards can often be seen on packages for toys for children. These warnings are cautionary for parents and adults to let the know that there are small pieces within the box that can be potentially dangerous for children if they are swallowed. If a child is going to play with a toy that has  choking hazard, it is important to keep close watch over them, to make sure that they do not break off and swallow peices of the toys.
