Choking is a very
serious occurrence because it is the obstruction of the airway, which causes
the oxygen flow of the body to be stifled and decreased. Furthemore, it is very
uncomfortable to anyone who has this particular issue occurring, and if not
treated it can be potentially very serious. Furthermore, it is an issue that
can occur throughout the entirety of the age spectrum.
Choking
Choking is what
occurs when there is an obstruction of someone's breathing. Most often choking
is related to issues of food or a foreign object getting lodged in one's
throat. Children are often more susceptible of having choking occur, because
they do not understand the dangers that come with putting large objects in
their mouths and attempting to swallow them.
Heimlich Maneuver
The Heimlich
Maneuver is a procedure that is used to help dislodge food or foreign objects
that get stuck in one's throat. This Heimlich Maneuver is often done with the
help of another and should only be done by someone who knows how to do this
procedure properly. When it comes to the Heimlich Maneuver, it is the basic
concept of an abdominal thrust which creates the coughing action that is
supposed to dislodge the item from the airway. In some cases this action can be
done relativel easily, while in other instances there is a need for much
repetition.
Choking Hazard
Choking Hazards can often be seen on packages for toys for children. These warnings are cautionary for parents and adults to let the know that there are small pieces within the box that can be potentially dangerous for children if they are swallowed. If a child is going to play with a toy that has choking hazard, it is important to keep close watch over them, to make sure that they do not break off and swallow peices of the toys.
