Yoga and Meditation Overview

Both yoga and meditation are common practices for those that are of the Hindu or Buddhist faiths. However, each practice has become secularized to a degree to allow for millions of other people to participate in these calming exercises which improve the function of the body and mind. Many classes that offer meditation incorporate yoga and meditation to have a fuller experience for the mind, body and spirit. Yogis, spiritual leaders that teach others of the ways of yoga, have been aiding people practice yoga and meditate for many centuries.

Yoga and Meditation Background

Yoga and meditation are two related practices in both the Hindu and Buddhist faiths as they adhere to the tenets of proper living. Stone carvings and sculptures that were uncovered in India suggest that both practices are thousands of years old and have a strong foundation in belief and practice. Meditation yoga is a branch of yoga in which both practices are incorporated together for the benefit of those that meditate regularly.

Yoga Meditation Music

Yoga meditation music as found recorded on CDs and in other formats is a fairly recent addition to the process of meditating and the practice of yoga. This music is serene and calming while giving participants a sound or verse to focus on during the meditation. Traditional meditation yoga uses mantras during meditations as a focus of the event in order to improve the mind, body, and spirit harmony through the repetition of a word or sound. Mantras have been used for thousands of years since the dawn of yoga and meditation.
