Indirect inguinal Hernia

An indirect inguinal hernia is the most common type of inguinal hernias.  It occurs in the groin area and can affect both men and women; however males are commonly more affected. An indirect inguinal hernia is considered a birth defect but can develop later on in life. It is highly recommended to undergo in surgery to repair the hernia as soon as the indirect inguinal hernia is discovered.

Scrotal Hernia

A scrotal hernia is an inguinal hernia that only men can develop. It occurs near the scrotum and can cause severe swelling and pain if not treated properly. Many factors contribute to the development of a scrotal hernia including health and different activities.

Epigastic Hernia

An epigastic hernia is a hernia that occurs in between the chest and the naval. The muscle can push through the abdominal wall and cause respiratory issues. Two common types of hernias that are closely related to an epigastic hernia are the paraesophageal hernia and the gastroesophageal hernia.

Femoral Hernia

A femoral hernia is commonly mistaken for an inguinal hernia, and although it does develop near the groin much like the inguinal hernia, it develops on the femoral vein. This hernia is more common in females because of the way their body is structured and is at times a birth defect.

Sports Hernia

A sports hernia is a common occurrence in many athletes. In most cases a repair surgery is not required but time off from the sport and other activities may be required for proper recovery.  This hernia is highly misunderstood and at time ignored because of other muscle injuries, however if not treated and cared for this hernia can be career ruining.

Umbilical Hernia

An umbilical hernia is a herniated belly button. It is very common for infants to have a herniated belly button because of the development process. Although this can be a shocking sight for new mothers, an umbilical hernia is normally not something to be concerned about.

Spigelian Hernia

Spigelian Hernias are a rare hernia that develops in adults over the age of 50. They can occur because of the weakened muscles in the abdominal wall. Often Spigelian hernias go unnoticed because of the protection from the abdominal wall and abdominal muscles.

Hernia in Women

Although hernias are more popular amongst males, females can develop hernias as well. With painful signs and symptoms it is important to take proper precautions and undergo in the correct treatments to repair any hernias that a women is experiencing.  The three popular types of hernias that women can develop are inguinal, hiatal, and femoral.

Diaphragmatic Hernia

A diaphragmatic hernia can be a birth defect. It is caused when a child develops an extra opening near its diaphragm which allows other organ to slip through the opening and into the chest cavity. With the other organs in the chest cavity the fetus is does not have room to fully develop its lungs.

Direct Inguinal Hernia

A Direct inguinal hernia is a hernia that occurs in the groin area.  It can occur due to stress on the groin muscles. The pain and the hernia normally develop slowly but can be extremely dangerous and painful if not properly treated.  This type of hernia occurs when the small intestine or excess abdominal fat slip into the groin area.
