An orthodontist is a specialist in the field of dentistry that is focused on the treatment and prevention of certain kinds of dental and facial irregularities. Almost all orthodontists in the United States will belong to the American Association of Orthodontists, or AAO. The AAO is a professional organization that is meant strictly for orthodontists that was first established in the early 1900's.
