Pediatrics is a specific field of medicine that deals exclusively with young people- infants, young children, and adolescents. Within pediatrics, there are many different fields of practice. For example, pediatric dentistry will concentrate on the oral hygiene of young children, keeping their teeth healthy and teaching them proper hygiene habits that will hopefully stick with them until adulthood. When choosing the right doctor for one’s child, parents should obtain all the pediatrician information possible before making a decision, especially if this child has a serious medical concern. Obtaining a doctor that is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics is always beneficial, because these individuals are required to complete ongoing education and are held to the absolute highest standards.

Pediatricians, along with pediatric nurses, with be divided according to the type of medicine they specialize in. The path to becoming a pediatrician is a difficult on that involves a great deal of schooling and training. After completing medical school, a doctor must go on to complete at least two residencies.
