Bee Sting Treatment

For most people, a bee sting treatment will be simple and fast. There are many home remedies that are used as bee stings treatment. The only time that someone will need to seek professional medical help is if they are allergic to bee stings. The pain and swelling from a bee sting might also need to be treated. There are several things that can be involved with a bee sting treatment.

The first thing that must be handled is the stinger. A stinger will usually be left in the skin when a bee stings. The reason that most bees die immediately after stinging someone is because of the fact that their stinger becomes deeply implanted and they cannot get it out. It detaches as they fly away, causing them to bleed to death. The venom that is pushed into the skin with the stinger is what makes the area hurt, swell up and itch. Many people feel that the stinger must be removed for a bee sting treatment, however, while the stinger should be removed, it should not be pulled directly out. Using tweezers or another method to pull the stinger straight out will almost always result in more venom dripping into the wound. The stinger should be gently scraped away from the wound in a sideways motion, which will prevent more venom from dripping into it.

The next step of the bee sting treatment is to make sure that the individual is not having any allergic reactions to the sting. An allergic reaction to a bee sting can be deadly, especially if immediate medical care is not available. Common symptoms of a bee sting allergy are a dry cough, swelling of the throat and eyes, labored breathing, dizziness and nausea. The most severe symptom is if a person goes into shock. Most people will not have a reaction like that to a bee sting, but one should still make sure that the only uncomfortableness is a slight pain or itching.

Bee stings treatment can be done at home. After verifying that there is no serious danger, then the pain can be treated. Tylenol can be used for the pain of a bee sting, ice is also used to bring down the swelling and calm the itching. One little known type of bee sting treatment is a slice of raw onion. The raw onion brings down the swelling and also eases some of the pain caused by the bee sting. A mixture of baking soda and water can also be applied to the sting as a way of extracting the venom and easing the swelling. Calamine lotion or other types of topical ointment can be applied to ease the itching and prevent infection.

Bee stings treatment can vary, depending on the reaction to the sting. Usually, the only thing that will be needed is something to ease the pain and swelling. People who are allergic will need more a more serious bee stings treatment such as EpiPen, a portable dose of anti-allergy medication that can be injected directly into the skin.
